Re-WILDing the Soul: Setting A Course Home, with Mac Macartney and Petersham Nurseries
42ACRES, 66 Leonard Street, Shoreditch, EC2A 4LW | Wednesday 13th December, 7.30pm
Deep down we know our strength lies in our togetherness, in our interconnectedness and interdependence. We are woven as cloth and find coherence and peacefulness when coming home to each other and those of all other tribes - the plants, the animals, the rocks, the insects, the fish, the seen and the unseen. Mac Macartney's talk braids beauty, wildness, activism and the yearning pulse all humans have for a meaningful life, into a compelling story of belonging. It spreads a map at our feet and invites us to set a course, homeward bound.
Join us for our fourth evening celebration of the WILD with a talk from Mac Macartney, meditation and Wild vegan banquet prepared by Michelin star Petersham Nurseries.
Mac is an international speaker, writer and change-maker, and founder of the leadership-based social enterprise, Embercombe. Mentored by indigenous people over twenty years, he has acquired profound and original insights into questions preoccupying contemporary society. During this training and ever since, he has attempted to bring two worlds together – an ancient world-view that emphasises relationship, interdependence, and reverence for life with the significant challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century.
Mac's talk will explore the nature of belonging, the wild, and the free, and the beautiful web of interconnection in which exists our world, inviting us to return back home to our authentic selves.
After the talk we will sit for a delicious vegan banquet dinner prepared by world-renowned Petersham Nurseries. Petersham's ethos champions respect for the produce they work with and will create a menu inspired by what is growing in the garden, the season and their connection to the environment. Our Wild Food Feast will be set at tables decorated with candles, lanterns, wild leaves and foraged flowers, and strewn with fresh salads, locally sourced vegetables and grains. All food will be vegan, local and organic wherever possible.
The evening is hosted in the beautiful space of 42 Acres Shoreditch, an old school with large windows wooden floors, exposed brick walls and a vaulted ceiling.

Mac is an international speaker, writer and change-maker. He is also the founder of the leadership-based social enterprise, Embercombe.
Over a period of twenty years Mac was mentored by a group of indigenous elders. During this training and ever since, he has attempted to bring two worlds together – an ancient world-view that emphasises relationship, interdependence, and reverence for life with the significant challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century.
Head chef, Damian Clisby, previously head chef at HIX Soho and Cotswold House works alongside Lucy Boyd, gardener, food writer and cook, who has worked at the Nurseries for most of the last decade. Lucy's exceptional produce knowledge, culinary background and lifelong affection for Italian flavours, combine perfectly with Damian's technical skills and shared passion for ingredient-led cooking. Together they create an evolving menu inspired by what is growing in the garden, the changing seasons, and our connection to the environment.
Petersham’s sourcing ethos revolves around respect of the produce they work with, appreciating its exceptional quality and taste. In turn the small farmers and artisan producers who grow or produce these ingredients benefit from their support – a virtuous circle best espoused by the international Slow Food movement.
